Artist Profile: KAMUITHEWORLD

Background

KAMUITHEWORLD is an upcoming rapper and songwriter from Stone Mountain, Georgia. Although he has been recording and releasing music on SoundCloud since 2020, Kamui’s debut in the rap scene came with his 2022 album Happy end. Happy end contained heavy influence from trap, murder rap, and melodic rap. These genres were growing in popularity at the time, and Happy end turned out to be Kamui’s first successful album among his fanbase. 

This was hardly the extent of his music career. Since his debut, Kamui has released three albums, three EPs, a single, and a deluxe for his most recent and most successful album, KAMUISWORLD 2. Accompanying his consistent releases, Kamui has received thousands of streams on his recent projects on several platforms. This newfound success did not come without change and growth, contrary to his earlier works, Kamui has shifted to more conscious lyrical rap. In fact, in 2023, with ##KAMUINB, he gave us a taste of his singing abilities with his first experimental R&B project. In our interview, he hinted at more conscious rap and R&B in his upcoming album CODE. 


Tucker Origins

KAMUITHEWORLD began his official career as a rapper at Tucker High School. He enjoyed his time building a strong community at Tucker until his junior year when he moved to Gwinnett County; he now attends Grayson High School. Kamui explained that despite the distance, he has maintained his Tucker community and continues to receive support from the student population. In 2023, he began collaborating with Tucker producer Shamina. He explained that Shamina has not only produced a multitude of beats for him but has pushed Kamui to branch out to new styles and develop his identity as an artist. 

Personal relationships have been an important part of Kamui’s career. He explained that he wants to create a personal relationship with his fanbase where he is open to criticism and exists as a voice for his audience. He also emphasized the importance of his relationships with other artists, “I’m so thankful for them.” This was in regards to producers Medlok, Cae, and Sean, who he worked with on his most recent projects, and Seijin, a fellow rapper from Decatur, Georgia who has been a close collaborator of Kamui’s.


What is THE WORLD?

Kamui’s primary source of influence throughout his career has been former rapper and songwriter XXXTentacion. Kamui explained that X’s implementation of his complex ideology on life and society into his music inspired him to attempt to do the same. Similar to X, Kamui began his career as a teenage artist. He is well aware of his ever-changing identity as a young adult and hopes to reflect it in his music. Not only does he hope to inspire emotion in his audience, but Kamui hopes to give his fans something to think about. He attempts to communicate his mind and ideas to his listeners so that they may grow with him – not only as an artist, but as a person. 

While his lyrics often reflect his own ideas, Kamui refrains from presenting his listeners with conclusions, rather he encourages them to question their reality and consider new perspectives. In one of his personal favorite lines he says, “We conscious but not in control, and when money come in God leaves, I know this shit hard to believe but all of our lives we been wrong and deceived.” In these lines (taken from his song “Intro”), Kamui points out that we retain the ability to think for ourselves but are often influenced by outside forces such as the media and materialism. While Kamui does call out some aspects of American society with these lines, he does not encourage his audience to take any action to overcome these flaws; he merely wants them to think. This further displays Kamuis’s awareness of his identity as a teenage rapper. It’s difficult to give people solutions when you have yet to experience and figure out the world for yourself. As young adults, all we can do is think and grow.
